Event Insurance

Special Event Insurance Cover from WorldWide Special Risks insures peace of mind from the financial risk associated with organising or attending events.

ABOUT OUR EVENT INSURANCE

Cover that works as hard as you do to make your event happen.

Events of every kind carry financial risk. Venue deposits, supplier fees, catering costs, entertainment contracts these are all committed long before the day itself. When something goes wrong, those costs don't automatically come back.

WorldWide Special Risks has been underwriting event insurance for over 20 years, providing cover for everything from village fetes to international conferences. Our policies are tailored to the specific risks of your event, not a generic template and are available for one-off events or as an annual policy for organisations running a regular programme.

As a Coverholder at Lloyd's, we can provide cover in over 70 countries with an AM Best A (Excellent) rating, the security that venues, sponsors and licensing bodies need to see.

What your event insurance policy can include

Cancellation & Abandonment Insurance

Covers the irrecoverable costs and contracted expenses you've committed to if your event is cancelled, abandoned or postponed due to circumstances outside your control, including adverse weather, venue unavailability, communicable disease, terrorism, civil unrest and critical supplier failure.

Available with optional adverse weather cover for outdoor events, and for multi-day events where only part of the programme may be affected.

Non-Appearance Insurance

Covers your financial loss if a key speaker at a conference, a headline act at a concert or festival, the bride or groom at a wedding, or any other named individual central to your event is unable to appear due to illness, injury, bereavement or travel disruption.

Can be structured for a single named individual or across multiple key participants in the same programme.

Public & Employers Liability Insurance

Public Liability covers your legal liability for accidental injury to visitors or damage to the venue, with limits up to £25m. Employers Liability protects you against claims from staff, helpers or volunteers who are accidentally injured while working at your event.

Available as a standalone policy or as part of a combined event insurance package. Often a contractual requirement of your venue, local authority or event licence.

Event Property All Risks Insurance

Covers owned and hired-in equipment, marquees, AV, sound systems, lighting, staging, communication equipment and any other property brought to the event, against accidental loss or damage throughout the event period, including set-up and breakdown.

Available on a one-off basis for a single event, or as an annual policy for organisers running a regular programme throughout the year.

Case Studies

Three reasons event insurance is worth having

Protect against financial loss

Event costs, venue hire, catering, entertainment, AV, marketing are committed months in advance. A forced cancellation, a liability claim, or damaged equipment can result in significant loss. The right insurance ensures those costs don't fall entirely on you.

Cover built around your event

Every event is different. A village fete and an international conference carry different risks, different liability requirements and different cancellation exposures. We structure cover around what your event actually looks like, not a generic template.

Confidence to deliver

With the right cover in place, you can focus on making your event a success rather than worrying about what might go wrong. And if something does go wrong, you have the backing of Lloyd's of London, the world's most trusted specialist insurance market.

PUBLIC LIABILITY

Protecting you against claims from members of the public

Public Liability insurance covers your legal liability for accidental bodily injury to visitors, spectators or third parties, and for accidental damage to third-party property, including the venue itself.

It can be taken out by an event organiser, or by an exhibitor, stallholder, supplier or service company attending someone else's event. Limits of up to £25m are available, and cover can be arranged as a one-off policy for a single event or as an annual policy for multiple events across the year.

Public Liability is frequently a contractual requirement when hiring a venue or attending a third-party event, we can issue documentation quickly if you need proof of cover for this purpose.

EMPLOYERS LIABILITY

Protecting you against claims from your team

Employers Liability insurance covers compensation claims made by employees, helpers or volunteers who are accidentally injured while assisting in the running of your event or manning an exhibition stand.

A claim from a volunteer or helper can arise from similar circumstances to a Public Liability claim, most commonly accidental bodily injury as a result of an unforeseen incident during the event. It covers their legal costs and expenses as well as any compensation awarded.

Employers Liability is a legal requirement for any organisation with paid employees, and is strongly recommended for events relying on volunteers and casual helpers.

Frequently Asked Questions about event insurance

What does event insurance typically cover?

Event insurance can include public liability, employers liability, cancellation and abandonment, non-appearance of key individuals, adverse weather cover, and property all risks for owned or hired equipment. Cover is tailored to the size, type and specific risk profile of your event, you select the elements you need rather than paying for a fixed package.

Can I get an instant quote online?

Yes, for most UK events, our online quote engine provides an instant quote and immediate cover. For events outside the UK, more complex events requiring individual underwriting consideration, or large-scale commercial occasions, complete our online enquiry form or call us directly and our team will come back to you as quickly as possible.

Do I need event insurance for a small event?

Even small events carry risk, a single liability claim, a venue cancellation, or damaged hired equipment can result in costs that far exceed the insurance premium. Many venues also require proof of public liability cover as a condition of hire. Policies start from £26.99 including IPT, making cover accessible for events of any size.

Is cancellation cover included as standard?

Cancellation cover is available as part of your event policy and protects the irrecoverable costs you've committed to if your event has to be cancelled, postponed or abandoned due to circumstances outside your control. For some smaller event types, celebrations and parties, for example, cancellation is included as standard.

For larger or more complex events it's typically structured as a specific element of the policy alongside liability cover.

Can you cover high-value or complex events?

Yes. We specialise in underwriting more complex risks, large-scale commercial events, multi-day programmes, international occasions and events requiring higher liability limits. If your event falls outside the scope of our instant online quote engine, contact our underwriting team directly and we'll assess the risk and provide tailored terms.

Can I get cover for events outside the UK?

Yes. Through Lloyd's of London we can provide event insurance in over 70 countries. International events are arranged through our online enquiry form rather than the instant quote engine, so our team can review the specific risks involved and provide appropriate terms.

Do you cover one-off events or ongoing programmes?

Both. We provide one-off policies for individual events, and annual multiple-event policies for organisations running a regular programme throughout the year. An annual policy is typically more cost-effective if you're organising more than two or three events in a twelve-month period.
